RFT for Geophysical Survey at Pollardstown Legacy Landfill

Kildare County Council has appointed Consulting engineers to prepare a Stage 1 Environmental Risk Assessment and Remediation Plan for a legacy landfill at Pollardstown in accordance with the EPA Code of Practice and comprising of Tier 2 and Tier 3 Risk Assessments. Pollardstown legacy landfill site consisted of 4 No. of sand and gravel pits which were backfilled with waste material between 1988 to 2004. The sites are in the townland of Pollardstown, approximately 2.5km to the west of the town centre of Newbridge and 5k northeast of Kildare Town in County Kildare. The waste deposits are not all interconnected and as such the site has been divided into distinct areas. The site is c. 23.5ha in extents and is zoned into 4 areas of interest, each area is under separate ownership. The landownership can be provided by Kildare County Council to the successful bidder. The objective of the survey is to aid in the determination of: 1. The extent of the waste body 2. The thickness of the waste body and presence of any anomalous features 3. A volume calculation 4. Proposed location of boreholes to confirm the base of waste The survey will be focused on 4 areas of interest and carry out the following: ▪ Ground Conductivity survey; ▪ Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) profiles; and ▪ Seismic refraction profiles
