Rehabititation of Protected Bridge Structure at Latoon

Tender description

Latoon North Bridge is a 3 span masonry arch bridge located off the R458 in Latoon, Co.Clare, between Newmarket-on-Fergus and Clarecastle. The structure is a protected structure crossing the Rine River (Ardsollus River). The Rine River (Ardsollus River) is tidal and forms part of the Lower River Shannon SAC, the Shannon River & River Fergus Estuaries SPA and the NHA Fergus Estuary and Inner Shannon North Shore National Heritage Area. No materials arising from the works shall be allowed to enter the Special Area of Conservation or the Special Protection Area, with no scaffolding permitted to be erected within the watercourse. A temporary access platform in the form of an underbridge unit or similar will be required for the works below the structure. The structure is in poor condition with masonry repairs required to the parapets, spandrel walls, wing walls, piers, abutments, and arch barrels. Extensive vegetation clearance is also required from the structure with the soft verges to be replaced with concrete verges, finished level with the existing surfacing. In summary the rehabilitation works for Latoon North Bridge are to involve the following: - Vegetation clearance - Construction of new concrete verges - Masonry repairs - Masonry repointing - Pressure pointing (grouting) - Parapet coping to be repaired / replaced The rehabilitation works should be programmed to be carried out in the following sequence: - Repairs to spandrel walls / wing walls - Repairs to piers and abutments - Repairs to arch barrels - Repairs to cutwaters, parapets and bridge surface (soft verge replacement) Lot 218796: Rehabititation of Protected Bridge Structure at Latoon Please consult the associated tender documentation, which contains full instructions regarding the submission of tenders in respect of competitions.
