Consultancy Services to support the development of a Department of Foreign Affairs Climate Strategy

Tender description

The Climate Unit proposes to engage a consultant to support the development of a new DFA Climate Strategy, a cross-departmental Climate Finance Roadmap and related tasks. This work will build on Ireland’s aims as espoused in the Programme for Government 2020 and Departmental strategies and assist the Department and other government departments to better tackle the climate crisis through our work. The DFA Climate Strategy will take cognisance of the considerable work done by Policy Unit before the formation of Climate Unit, and the work to date by Climate Unit and chart out a path forward to increase and strengthen DFA’s contribution to the global climate crisis. The Climate Strategy will provide the framework and establish the priorities for our climate diplomacy and climate finance over the coming years. In developing the new strategy, an assessment of existing climate diplomacy priorities and policy and funding commitments will be carried out to plot a path forward for strategic engagement in areas where Ireland has a strong and credible voice. In doing so, the consultant will assist DFA to consider the breadth of actions and entry points offered by our diverse bilateral and multilateral Mission Network on climate issues, and consider opportunities for the expansion or harmonisation of actions or diplomatic engagements.
