Interreg Smart Space Public Lighting Retrofit - Upgrade of 600 existing street lights to LED lighting with smart lighting elements built into them.

Tipperary County Council is aiming to reduce the energy consumption of its public lighting infrastructure. Tipperary County Council seeks to appoint a suitable electrical contractor for the supply, installation, and commissioning of an energy efficient LED smart public lighting system to the villages of Clonoulty and Drangan, and the town of Thurles. A preliminary design will be included in the tender package, however the successful contractor must allow for the design of the new smart lighting systems by a registered public lighting designer in their submitted tender. The contract shall consist of the retrofitting of energy efficient smart lighting systems to existing public lighting columns forming part of Tipperary County Council’s public lighting portfolio. The new retrofitted public lighting system must have smart lighting elements to its installation in order to comply with the Interreg Smart-Space requirements. Local, regional and national roads will be included in the lighting upgrade, along with town and village housing estates. The existing lighting in Tipperary County Council’s public lighting stock consists of a variety of SON and SOX fittings, ranging from 55W to 250W. It is proposed to replace these fittings with an energy efficient LED smart lighting fitting incorporated into smart lighting systems. There are approximately 600 No. fittings to be retrofitted. The new low energy lighting systems must ensure appropriate illumination levels are achieved with correct uniformity, intensity, and colour. Lighting lux levels must be compliant with current Irish, European, and British standards. Standards must be adhered to in all road class environments and housing estates and must meet the guidelines as set out in EN 13201-1-5 ‘Road Lighting’ and BS 5489-1:2013 ‘Code of practice for the design of road lighting.
