Construction of an Emergency Department Extension

<p>This procurement is being undertaken as a mini competition via NHS Shared Business Services PS-Works: Public Sector Construction Works (SBS/18/DT/PZC/9332). Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WHHFT) is a medium sized Acute Trust providing a comprehensive range of acute, maternity, orthopaedic and child health services to the population living in the boroughs of Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn. Services are provided from Warrington Hospital in Warrington, Halton Hospital including the Cheshire and Merseyside Treatment Centre (CMTC) in Runcorn. There is a need for, A) for increasing the Paediatric ED footprint and B) for creating a purpose-built clinical area to support the enhanced delivery of the Combined Assessment Unit (CAU) &ndash; this ambition has subsequently became known in the Trust as the Emergency Department Plaza. The new build supported the decommissioning of the current CAU modular build, which is 21 years old, nearing end of life and is a sub optimal clinical area for delivering ambulatory models of care. The development will form a 2 storey interconnected building with a small plant room to the 3rd storey. The ground floor will deliver clinical assessment space with staff support areas to the first floor. This will allow the Trust to streamline patients from ED to the assessment plaza to deliver quicker care and to prevent the Emergency Department becoming bottlenecked with patients who can be seen in the assessment plaza. This will release vital space for more patients to be seen during busy periods and especially the busy winter months. The project will also provide the staff support areas away from the current ED footprint and &lsquo;shop floor&rsquo; to release these non-clinical areas for future clinical space as a further future development opportunity.</p> Keywords: Contractor, Emergency Department, Construction
