Zeiss AxioImager Microscope

Zeiss AxioImager, Camera and Zen Core. Optical microscope with light options, camera and motorised stage. Under Regulation Reg 6(1)(b)(ii) of the Procurement (Scotland) Regulations 2016, a contracting authority may award a contract without competition based on the following justification: Competition is absent for technical reasons (only if it is not caused by artificial narrowing down of the parameters of the procurement and no reasonable alternative or substitute exists) Explanation: For the samples required, the University require a microscope with the ability to show light in numerous ways (dark field, bright field, polarised, etc). Individually these forms of microscopy have focus issues that can be overcome using a method called circular differential interference contrast. Only the Zeiss microscope has this capability. In addition the Zeiss microscope has a field of view, motorised stage and automated image stitching facilities that are needed to analyse these samples. Whilst others on the market have motorisation, none have the automated stitching facility.
