The Steel and Metals Institute (SaMI) is an open access centre delivering innovation through partnerships, and is currently based at Swansea University’s Singleton Campus. The centre’s mission is to create a 21st century steel and metals industry, building strong links between academia and industrial partners and facilitating collaborative relationships between our members. SaMI is focused on identifying solutions to industry challenges including product and process optimisation, through a collaborative cluster of enhanced research capability. SaMI currently has a wide range of equipment including materials characterisation, testing and process simulation facilities, and now require an axial servo electric dynamic testing system, extended height test frame. This test frame is to be accompanied by an electronic control system designed to test metallic specimens under various dynamic and monotonic axial loading conditions. should be able to achieve a minimum of 10Hz (for 50kN and 2mm load train displacement). Using the software, SaMI require the ability to program trapezoidal (with long dwell), triangular and sinusoidal waveforms, view minimum/maximum stress data logging and view a live oscilloscope of the loading profile.
