Prepare and produce a ‘Design Advice’ study that provides a strategic plan and an over-arching narrative for the Leytonstone BLEN “Green Links” initiative. The project area as indicated in the scheme masterplan, incorporates a network of residential streets to the west of High Road Leytonstone bounded by Wanstead Flats. The project will ‘scope out’ and present new opportunities for green infrastructure, public realm interventions, effective wayfinding and information points for this area that aim to: • Improve comfort levels for active travel modes and provide continuity with existing active travel routes. • Respond to the aspirations of the local neighbourhood and project stakeholders. • Reflect the nature and characteristics of the local residential area and its’ adjacent landscapes. • Meet the criteria for BLENs. The core task is to formulate a comprehensive ‘Design Advice’ package of information including an area appraisal; identification of improvement schemes, interventions and routes; outline design of key projects; development of scheme design palettes (materials, finishes, street furniture, greening) plus outline costings. Proposed interventions to the existing road layout are to incorporate: • New street trees and SUDS gardens. • Pocket Parks combining planting, natural materials and permeable surfaces. • Cycle and pedestrian permeability improvements. • Wayfinding, information points and boundary wall treatment that promotes the importance of improving air quality and reducing pollution levels.
