The Department wishes to commission a scoping review to help inform the development of a potential new birth cohort for the Growing Up in Ireland (GUI) study. The review will build on the experience of GUI to date and will include the following, with specific reference to a set of key elements core to the development, design and implementation of birth cohort studies: • A review of international literature on longitudinal research design and experiences/practices in birth cohort studies internationally. • A focused consultation with key stakeholders in relation to the purpose and content of a potential new birth cohort study • The identification of options for the design and implementation of a potential new birth cohort study - drawing on all of the above. An indicative set of key elements core to the development, design and implementation of birth cohort studies is outlined in Appendix 1
