Tender description

Severn Trent are looking to find suppliers which have the technical capabilities who can answer our problem statement. Severn Trent Water wishes to improve its ability to monitor structural health of its wastewater assets to identify and address potential problems within its wastewater network. Failure to do this could otherwise result in asset failure and lead to further problems such as pollution/sewer flooding. Part of the solution to achieving this goal is to measure the stress on the asset to accurately ascertain its useful remaining life. By measuring structural fatigue, STW would like to move into a proactive space for asset repair/replacement without causing disruption through asset failure. STW are looking to engage multiple industries to identify potential suppliers who can provide technology that can digitise the surface fatigue of existing rising mains in order to transmit real time asset condition report and predict potential failure using modelling and AI software. STW are looking to engage multiple industries to identify potential suppliers who can provide technology that can digitise the surface fatigue of existing rising mains in order to transmit real time asset condition report and predict potential failure using modelling and AI software. The solution must be strictly non-intrusive and easy to install, i.e. digitise the mains by retrofitting, non-invasively. We currently do not have a similar solution within the business and are therefore looking to trial solutions that will deliver said outcomes. We are seeking a device that is capable of being rolled out with relative ease across STW’s prioritised sites — high risk associated for permanent monitoring — within the network and can work in conjunction with our loggers to create a holistic landscape of our asset health. This will enable us to better understand the operational condition of our assets and enable us to take necessary action proactively. We will look to run a proof of concept (PoC) trial by deploying ‘fit for purpose’ devices into our operational waste rising waste mains, for a minimum of at least 3 months. Deployment of monitors in sewer environments brings its own challenges, including, but not limited to: potential for explosive atmospheres, poor signal connectivity, being remote, highly dependent on battery technology and the need for devices to be maintenance free with straightforward installation procedures. The successful solution will need to meet the technical challenges of producing a sensor with the necessary capabilities at a price point that justifies the business case for a potential large scale deployment. PIN Objectives Deliver insight and understanding of the technology currently available on the market or in the process of being developed for the market and identify suppliers that can demonstrate the capability of developing a product which answers STW Problem Statement. Where possible, demonstrate via a PoC Trial that sensors can be deployed into the network and validate that the installation, operation, maintenance, reliability and overall whole life costs of these products is consistent with our use case. — demonstrate successful operation of sensor, — demonstrate ability to reliably transmit data remotely from within manhole locations, — identify technology which can deliver accurate, consistent data, — provide estimates of expected operating life of sensors, batteries and components, — provide indicative final production costs than enables potential mass deployment, — demonstrate approaches for sensor installation which are safe, quick, repeatable and reliable, — to identify Return on Investment (ROI) periods at various scales of deployment.
