Tender description

Purchase of 3 pairs of collimators for UKRI — STFC UKRI-STFC have a requirement for the supply of 3 pairs of radial collimators to be used on the IMAT instrument at Rutherton Appleton laboratory. A Collimator is a device that narrows a beam of particles or waves. To narrow can mean either to cause the directions of motion to become more aligned in a specific direction (i.e., make collimated light or parallel rays), or to cause the spatial cross section of the beam to become smaller (beam limiting device). IMAT (Imaging and Materials Science and Engineering) is a neutron imaging and diffraction instrument for materials science, materials processing and engineering. The special features of the instrument will be energy-selective neutron imaging and the combination of neutron imaging and neutron diffraction. IMAT will offer a combination of imaging and spatially resolved diffraction modes such as neutron radiography, neutron tomography, energy-selective imaging, neutron strain scanning, crystallographic structure and phase analysis, texture analysis, and non-destructive testing.
