Develop Biomaterials Repository for the National Marine Biodiscovery Laboratory

Tender description

At present, a requirement exists for technical experts to develop the national marine Biomaterials Repository, including the development of an electronic database for tracking samples and results. The experts will create a researchers network for the National Marine Biodiscovery Laboratory of Ireland and initiate marine biotechnology research initiatives. This a 12-month project, supported by European Maritime Fisheries Funds (EMFF) administered through the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine. The repository comprises of infrastructure to provide access to samples and specialised marine data; for example, freeze-dried marine algal, invertebrate and sediment samples, as well as marine-derived microbial cultures. It includes a database for tracking samples processed through bioassays performed, results and isolated bioactive molecules. The project allows for the establishment of a coordinated network of researchers and industry working in the field who will avail of the repository. It also enables effective communication and collaboration mechanisms.
