Tender description

The authority has a requirement for a suitably qualified and experienced contractor for the provision of analysis of plankton samples which are collected as part of our ballast water sampling programme. As part of the Orkney Islands Council (OIC) Ballast Water Management Policy ballast water samples are collected from all vessels wishing to discharge ballast water in Scapa Flow, Orkney. The samples are collected as per the International Maritime Organisation’s Convention for the control and management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments 2004 guidelines. We are looking to contract a suitable laboratory for the provision of ballast water sample analysis for phyto- and zooplankton. The contract will be for an initial period of 36 months, the authority, at sole discretion, shall have the option to extend the term of the contract for 2 further 12-month periods.
