Summary of the work Agile Coaching Requirement Specialist role Agile coach Expected Contract Length 5 months (up to 31st March) with potential extention Latest start date Monday 2 December 2019 Maximum Day Rate £800 Who Speclialist Work With The Agile Coach will be working with all individuals within the directorate including, Directors, Service Owners, Product Owners, Delivery Managers, User Researchers, UX, Software Engineering, Commercial and Finance. What Specialists Work On Working across the organisation to support the adoption and embedding of Agile practices and mind-set. Supporting teams to adopt SCRUM framework and understanding of agile methodologies. Supporting at a directorate, team and individual level working closely with Service Managers/Owners and Delivery Managers to identify and deliver coaching and training interventions. The coach will work with all 10 of NHSBSA Delivery Teams across a directorate of circa 120 people. Skills & Experience • Must have a certified coaching qualification (ILM7 or equivalent). Please provide details of your qualification (2%) • Demonstrate your deep understanding of different agile and lean approaches and supporting context, such as behaviours, governance, process and culture (5%) • Demonstrate your experience of different agile and lean approaches in relation to portfolio management, programme and project team approaches (5%) • Demonstrate your experience of embedding agile tools and techniques and ability to use the most relevant tools and techniques as needed, in an NHS environment or similar (5%) • Demonstrate your knowledge and experience of agile product and software development and the enablers required to cultivate an agile organisation (5%) • Demonstrate your understanding and expereince of agile governance for service design in line with the GDS principles (4%) • Demonstrate your understanding and experience of project and programme management techniques (4%) Nice to Haves • Demonstrate your experience and ability to quickly win trust and influence senior leaders at the highest levels of the organisation (3%) • Demonstrate your experience and ability to embed rapidly and effectively into diverse project environments, at different stages of delivery and seamlessly moving between projects within an NHS environment (3%) • Demonstrate your experience and ability to work in environments undergoing complex change (2%) • Demonstrate how your are framework agnostic and use the right tools and techniques for the situation (2%) Work Location NHS Business Services Authority, Stella House, Goldcrest Way, Newburn Riverside, NE158NY Working Arrangments The individual will work flexibly to support teams, working an average of one day per week onsite and additional days to deliver specific coaching interventions in support of the teams or individuals. The successful individual must comply with relevant NHSBSA policies and standards. The role is onsite, it is expected that the specialist will work an average of one day per week and where required additional days with pre agreed outcomes. 18. Has there been an assessment prior to deciding to adopt Agile and Lean practices? The organisation has been working following Agile practices for two years, with c10 delivery squads each at different levels of maturity. The role of the specialist will be to work with these squads and leaders to support adoption of Agile practices. 19. How will you measure the efficiency of the work done by the coach? e.g: the specific KPIs that will be used during the contract? The specialist will be measured through agreed outcomes which will be measured in various forms for example feedback from individuals, increased capability or confidence and observation of improvements 20. Do candidates need existing BPSS, or will the process for gaining this be supported? BPSS is an NHSBSA standard requirement for this type of specialist 21. If they did less, they would be unable to coach all 120 people in the time allotted. The specialist is expected to work between 1 and 2 days per week, it is not envisaged that the specialist would need to work with each individual member of the directorate, the specialist would be expected to coach at a leadership level, team level and directorate level. The directorate has a level of maturity in Agile, the specialist will help identify specific areas for improvements and intervene as agreed 22. Would NHS Business Services Authority be willing negotiate on taking a candidate with considerable coaching experience even if they do not have the required qualification set out in the essential skills? The organisation is looking for a specialist with this qualification or demonstratable relevant experience to the equivalent 23. Will the BPSS security clearance be provided by the client? We anticipate notifying shortlisted suppliers on Friday 22nd of November. Interviews will be held on Thursday 28th of November 26. When will interviews take place for shortlisted applicants? Interviews for shortlisted applicants are scheduled for Thursday 28th November after 1pm. 27. If you look at 10 out of 15 questions asked by the suppliers, they all to do with "if there is an incumbent supplier", should this be filled in the "Early market engagement" field while placing the advert We have already taken on board the 'lesson learned' that this should be defined in the requirements. 28. I understood that maximum no of days work per week is 2 days. So is it just coaching the project teams on agile methodology instead of actually involving in the project. Please advise. The maximum number of days is expected to be between 1 and 2 days per week, the successful specialist will work across the directorate at a mixture of levels from individuals, teams and whole directorate. The directorate already has a strong capability in the adoption of agile methodology, the coach will work to continue to iterate this through specific interventions.
