Tender description

Manchester Central are currently looking for a competent contractor to carry out the repainting of high-level structural steel and wrought iron to the 2 gable ends of a Grade II* listed English Heritage building in the heart of Manchester. The contract period will be dependent on products used; initial estimate of works is to be completed within 20-26 weeks. It is intended for the contract to commence on approx. 15.4.2020. The requirement of this project is to carry out the above-mentioned works to the front and rear gable, with the front gable being undertaken at an estimated date of spring 2022. Manchester Central does not expect the activities to impact the day to day operations of the venue or events in tenancy and will work closely with the contractor to ensure effective delivery. If it is deemed to impact the business and/or events Manchester Central reserve the right to decline access to the gables, and to arrange for the works to be undertaken at an alternate time. The technical specification, within Appendix 2 of this document, gives the technical requirements for the re-painting of the steel and wrought iron surfaces of the 2 gable end structures at Manchester Central. The specification provides technical requirements for: — surface preparation of steel and wrought iron surfaces with existing paints in various conditions of degradation, — requirements for paints type for use in the re-painting works, — requirements for testing and paint trials prior to commencement of the works, — requirements for quality management and quality control of surface preparation and painting of the gable end structures. The gable end structures are part of a Grade II* listed building and the contractor shall comply with any conservation or heritage or planning requirements for the structure. The contractor is also responsible the design, specification and provision of safe working access to the structure. The contractor will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and all environmental legislation relating to surface preparation, paint application and disposal of waste arising from the works. 10 % of price scoring will be available against innovation to the contract/project which is deemed to add value to Manchester Central Convention Complex. This contract will be covered by a standard JCT contract agreement. Accurate drawings of the front and rear gables can be viewed within Appendix 1 of this document for reference. Please see Appendix 2 for full tender technical specification. Site visits are scheduled for the 28.2.2020 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the contractors who meet the requirements and have expressed an interest to the project advert. Site visits are mandatory in order to take part in this tender, these will take place on the above-mentioned dates, however an additional site visit date may be available upon request. Contractors will need to bring own PPE to include high vis, working boots, harness and hard hat. The visit will take the form of a small briefing, followed by a walk-around of the gable ends and an opportunity for questions. Please email procurement@manchestercentral.co.uk with the names of those attendees wishing to join the site visit by 4 p.m. on Thursday 27th February. A maximum of 3 personnel from each bidding organisation will be permitted to attend. Dependent upon availability, bidders will book a slot for either 11 a.m. or 2 p.m., and the visits will begin at Manchester Central’s concierge. A further date may become available due to late bidders.
