Irish Appalachian Trail - Trail Art Commission

Tender description

The International Appalachian Trail (IAT) is a long distance walking route that starts in the United States of America and ends in Morocco, making it the longest walking trail in the world. The Irish leg of the IAT was launched in 2013. It runs over nearly 500km from Sliabh Liag in Co. Donegal to Larne in Co. Antrim. In Donegal the trail is overseen by Donegal Local Development CLG, in conjunction with Donegal County Council and Údarás na Gaeltachta and covers ca. 120km. The trail connects two of Donegal’s long distance walking route; Slí Cholmcille, Glencolmcille to Ardara section, and the Bluestack Way, Ardara to Clardrumbarron, Donegal Town section. New parts are being marked from Malin Beg to Glencolmcille and Clardrumbarron to Kelly’s Bridge, the border with County Tyrone. Donegal Local Development CLG now wish to commission a number of permanent pieces of artwork at specific points along the proposed Donegal section of the walking trail.
