Tender description

Applications are invited to provide Skype based communication Skills support for Junior Doctors in training, in addition to CSA examination skills support for trainees across the East of England who have been referred to the Professional Support and Well-being Service (PSW). Some referrals received by the provider may require support with clinical communication-based exams. Before a trainee doctor or dentist is referred for communication skills support, they must be referred to the PSW by one of their educators (i.e. Educational Supervisor, Training Programme Director) or they can complete a self-referral in cases where exam failure is the only area of support identified. Upon receipt of the referral form, the PSW will triage the individual case and make a decision regarding what support would be beneficial to the trainee. In all cases where a trainee is referred to the PSW by their educator, they will have a meeting with their allocated Case Manager before being referred for communication skills support. In cases where a trainee has self-referred they will have a phone call with one of the PSW administration team before being referred for communication skills support. The provider will be expected to work with trainee doctors and dentists from all specialties. Please review ‘Specialty Programmes & Numbers’ for the list of specialties. This document will provide helpful information on the types of training undertaken and the number of trainees in each specialty. There is no minimum number of referrals per annum guaranteed. Please note, this service can experience peaks and troughs throughout the training year and numbers of referrals can be dependent on a number of factors such as Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCPs), timings of exams etc. The provider should understand the work undertaken, as well as the professional commitments of a trainee doctor or dentist in order to arrange mutually convenient sessions. The provider must be aware and demonstrate understanding that sessions may need to be rearranged at short notice due to emergency clinical situations and changes to rotas or on-call commitments. The provider will have the right to decline any referrals if deemed inappropriate. Keywords: EDUCATION
