Spine message handling (SMH) has been deployed in a wide range of environments; on various platforms, available computing resources, deployment and support models. It exposes a simple interface to the end-user system. The support service is split into software update and technical assistance as well SMH facilitates connection to the NHS Spine services as: — ereferrals/choose and book, — electronic prescribing service, — spine directory service. Royal Marsden Hospital has been deploying this service since 2016 that is interfacing with ERP to all other clinical systems. Royal Marsden trust requires to extend the existing choose and book/spine message contract related to the Trust’s Integration Engine (HealthShare/HealthConnect). Currently this service is supplied by InterSystems, which also covers more services than choose and book/spine message. The current service provider licence covers the use of the InterSystems toolset to interface Royal Marsden’s EPR to all other clinical systems that has been time consuming and expensive implementation process. The use of this toolset covers choose and book/spine broker. However, there is a separate line item for specialist technical support around choose and book, which Royal Marsden continue to require year on year. As InterSystems toolset is interfacing the RM’s EPR to all other clinical systems, Intersystems is the only supplier who can provide the required service.
