Kilkenny County Council has identified the need to engage the services of a Multi Disciplinary Design Team (Consultant Civil & Structural Engineer Led) for the design and construction of the proposed pedestrian and cycle link between the River Nore Linear Park (Bishops Meadows) and the Riverside Gardens (Abbey Quarter) in Kilkenny City. A feasibility study was carried out in 2009, to explore options to connect the River Nore Linear Park (Bishop Meadows) cycle/footpath to the existing track/ramp at Greens Bridge. The contents of this study are attached in Appendix A, for information purposes only. That project never came to fruition, but the new proposed project will include this element of the works and go a step further, by linking through to the new Riverside Gardens Project at the Abbey Quarter. It should be noted that the preliminary design stage should also take consideration how the new link could, in the future, tie into a modified pedestrian walkway across Greens Bridge, even though that connection will not form part of the current project.
