MID Edible Estates; Sustainable Eating Programme 2021

Monaghan Integrated Development (MID) is a community led local development company which delivers a range of social and economic programmes at a local level throughout County Monaghan. The Edible Estates 2021 Programme will build on successes of the pilot programme initiated in response to Covid 19 in 2020 to establish community-based approaches to sustainable eating and food production in Castleblayney and Clones. The Edible Estates Programme 2021 will support and encourage sustainable eating; this means eating foods that provide a balanced diet for the body while also conserving the environment. This will involve working with local communities in Castleblayney and Clones. Under this initiative, a minimum of 40 disadvantaged households will be supported to grow their own food. The programme will promote sustainable eating, equipping families with the knowledge to grow their own food. It will stimulate an interest and passion for growing food, promoting healthy eating and personal well-being. Giving participants free access to healthy food while equipping them with the skills to replicate this on an annual basis. There are two elements to the Edible Estates Programme 2021; 1. Supporting the individual participants/families to grow their own food; and 2. Establishing a community-based approach to sustainable eating and food production in Castleblayney and Clones
