A market engagement exercise for potential suppliers to SSEN’s constraint managed zone services to feed into the development of a subsequent procurement, as well as to help inform SSEN’s future investment. Constraint managed zones are established in areas of the network whereby network resilience is secured without requiring capital intensive network reinforcement. This is achieved by contracting with existing local flexible supply and demand-side measures, such as demand side response (altering user demand behaviour through financial incentive), Energy Storage/release and/or stand-by generation. In order to support the role out of constraint managed zones, SSEN intends to establish a Dynamic Purchasing System as its means of procuring services. To feed into this, and discussions surrounding ED2 price control, SSEN is undertaking market engagement.
