Tender description

Requirement: The Marine Litter team at Cefas require to purchase a single ATR- FTIR as part of the CLIP project in the Maldives. To ensure the delivery of the tasks listed for this project including, the creation of a microplastic laboratory for the Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI) in the Maldives, an affordable and portable ATR-FTIR is therefore required for the identification of plastics in environmental samples. Details: Attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy is a useful technique for measuring the infrared spectra of solids and liquids as well as probing adsorption on particle surfaces. The ATR- FTIR will be used by MMRI during their microplastic monitoring programme for cross analysis and polymer identification for quality assessment and quality control purposes. Installation and training onsite by the supplier will contribute towards the capacity building for MMRI.
