APHA is an executive agency of Defra, working on behalf of Defra, Scottish Government and Welsh Government. APHA is responsible for animal health and welfare and the regulatory and enforcement aspects of plant health and bee health. In the event of an animal health outbreak and peacetime BAU scenarios, services are required to facilitate the capture and euthanising of poultry livestock on the affected premises. Containerised Gassing Units (CGUs) may be required to deal with depopulation activities on a poultry farm. This Lot is designed to provide a fully comprehensive service for both the catching and culling of birds using CGUs. Poultry catchers are required to humanely catch birds, either prior to inspection, or prior to culling. A variety of gases may be required to support disease control operations. Generally, this would be a combination of carbon dioxide and argon gas – although there is a possibility that other gas mixtures may be required from time to time. Maintenance of APHA owned CGUs.
