Improving the market benefits to incentivise lower carbon industrial production in Scotland

On behalf of the Industrial Decarbonisation team (Energy Industries Division) within the Scottish Government, ClimateXChange wishes to commission research to explore policy opportunities for improving the market benefits for lower carbon industrial production, as a means of incentivising forward-looking investment to decarbonise Scotland’s energy-intensive industries (EII). In particular, we wish to identify how to influence market demand to better reward Scottish manufacturers who produce relatively lower-carbon products than their competitors. Research to explore policy opportunities for improving the market benefits for lower carbon industrial production. This research area emerged in response to engagement with EII representatives in Scotland, who have highlighted a desire to see lower carbon products given greater credit in purchasing decisions, including public procurement contracts, to reward and incentivise investment in energy efficiency and decarbonisation measures.
