Tender description

The Driving the Electric Revolution (DER) is an Innovate UK (IUK) Challenge program to support UK industry to seize the economic opportunities from the global transition to clean technologies and electrification. The programme will help businesses across numerous sectors including transport, energy, construction and agriculture to invest and work together to capitalise on the UK’s strengths in this technology. The DER program vision is ‘To make the UK globally recognised as the centre of excellence in PEMD manufacturing processes’. As part of that program, Newcastle University has been awarded a large grant to establish a new DER Innovation Centre (DER-IC) in the North East of England. The NE DER-IC will concentrate on the prototyping and scale-up of power electronics and electric motors. This document is focused on the assembly of electric motors and the purchase of relevant equipment for that activity. The University is establishing a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS). The scope of this DPS is to enable to subsequent purchase of a range of electric machine build and assembly equipment for a flexible assembly line as described in the DPS documentation. The electric machine build and assembly equipment DPS lots are as follows: 1) Stator Assembly, 2) Rotor Assembly, 3) Chemical Dispensing, 4) Automated Machine Assembly Line, 5) High Performance End of Line Test. Suppliers must indicate which lots they are applying by completing the relevant technical lot questionnaire(s). Applications to this DPS can be made by registering via the University's eTendering portal at: https://procontract.due-north.com/Advert/Index?advertId=cff1f075-742a-eb11-8105-005056b64545 The contract reference is NU/1612. The deadline for submitting an application in Round 1 of this DPS is 14.00 GMT on Monday 21 December 2020. If you miss this Round 1 deadline, a new Round (2) will automatically open, and so on. Lot 1: Stator Assembly This lot covers the supply of equipment for a stator assembly cell to form a central part of an automated machine assembly line, including winding, coil pressing, coil insertion and segmented stator assembly. Lot 2: Rotor Assembly This lot covers the supply of equipment for an automated cell capable of assembling the rotor of electrical machines, including automatic magnet placement/insertion, in situ magnetisation and rotor balancing. Lot 3. Chemical Dispensing This lot covers the supply of equipment for a chemical dispensing cell as part of a machine assembly line. Lot 4. Automated Machine Assembly Line This lot covers the supply of equipment for a flexible reconfigurable automated electrical machine assembly line. Lot 5. High Performance End of Line Test This lot covers the supply of equipment for a modular electric machine combined test cell for the purpose of a high performance end of line test for a machine assembly line.
