Newton Bar Junction Improvements

Tender description

<p>The proposed scheme layout comprises a major junction improvement of an existing roundabout and approach roads around the A650 at Newton Bar, Wakefield (see plan below). The existing A650 Newton Bar roundabout is on the West Yorkshire Key Route Network, linking routes to the centres of Wakefield, Leeds, and Pinderfields hospital. The corridor is heavily congested at peak times, and further pressure has been placed on the roundabout with the opening of the Wakefield Eastern Relief Road in 2017 (Neil Fox Way), recent extensive new housing and commercial development in the immediate area, and future committed development. The facilities for cyclists and pedestrian are poor, and the A61 Leeds Road corridor is a primary bus route between Leeds and Wakefield.</p> Keywords: Works, Civils, Highways, Construction
