Tender description

This procurement is for replacement of weather forecast information service at Highways England and will provide weather forecasting services to all asset delivery areas and a national forecasting provision. Highways England requires a source of detailed weather information to make informed operational decisions to mitigate the impact of severe weather on the strategic road network. It also has a statutory duty as a highway authority to ensure safe passage along a highway is not endangered by snow or ice. With the severe weather information service it forms a key part of the severe weather strategy that is committed to within the Highways England Delivery Plan. The weather forecasting information service contract provides vital forecasting information that broadens the options available and enables effective proactive decision making at both area/ national levels. A 4 year multi-lot framework with a national lot, and 3 regional lots will be procured to provide service resilience. Lot 1 – National Forecasting – to deliver weather forecasting information services in line with the above on a national scale. Lot 2 – Northern Region: Area 10, 12, 13 and 14 – to deliver weather forecasting information services in line with the above within these areas. Lot 3 – Central Region Area 7, 9, 6 and 8 – to deliver weather forecasting information services in line with the above within these areas. Lot 4 – Southern regions Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4 – to deliver weather forecasting information services in line with the above within these areas.
