Land and property investments are rigorously assessed before being considered and the Council needs independent second opinion advice to ensure our Investment and Regeneration Fund and Torbay Economic Growth Fund are being used wisely. The Council’s intention to ensure resilience of access to second opinion advice is to set up a standing list of suitably qualified and experienced advisers. Torbay Council, like many local authorities, has had to find millions of pounds worth of savings and has therefore approved an investment and regeneration fund strategy as part of its transformation programme to create a council fit to meet current and future challenges. The strategy enables the Council to invest GBP 300 million in opportunities and assets to generate income to reinvest in its services. Our portfolio of investments will bring financial benefits to Torbay and bring forward regeneration schemes benefitting the Torbay economy, raising GBP 3.6 million in the 2019/20 financial year. The Council has also established a Torbay Economic Growth Fund of up to GBP 100 million to progress a range of capital projects for economic growth and regeneration within Torbay, to be funded from the future income from those projects.
