Tender description

Comprehensive recycling and waste services Currently the University sends all of its non-hazardous commercial/residential waste from campus activities (Edgbaston and Selly Oak) and student accommodation (The Vale Village and Selly Oak Student Villages) to a local refuse derived fuel solution and classes itself as a ‘zero to landfill’ university and this is a minimum requirement for all lots. Non-hazardous commercial/residential waste and dry mixed recycling The contractor shall provide a comprehensive waste management service for non-hazardous commercial/residential waste ensuring excellent service standards and accurate waste management data including lifts per container, weight, and costs via pay by weight solution such as Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID). Furthermore, Eurobin collections shall include a no lift, no fee stipulation and should not include rental charges Glass recycling The contractor shall provide a pay by weight glass clearance and recycling service. Cardboard recycling The tenderer shall provide a rebate by weight cardboard recycling service. Food waste recycling The contractor shall provide an innovative and environmentally sound solution to the collection and disposal of food waste, which shall include raw and cooked food waste and catering related waste. The contractor shall provide a comprehensive pay by weight recycling service for food waste, ideally on a container replacement basis to reduce the risks of odour, vermin and contamination and ensuring excellent service standards and accurate waste data. The contractor should supply the caddies for food collection and bio-degradable liners. Confidential waste and paper Inc. CD’s, DVD’s, videos, and corporate clothing that must be securely destroyed. This lot will also include a reasonable amount of good quality non-confidential paper for recycling. The contractor shall ensure the provision of a comprehensive pay by weight confidential waste management service for all confidential waste streams. WEEE waste The contractor shall provide a comprehensive pay by weight waste management service for WEEE waste (excluding white goods, IT, and associated equipment). Skip waste and bulky mixed waste (Furniture, etc.) The contractor shall provide a comprehensive pay by weight skip/Ro-Ro waste service. Mixed metals The tenderer shall provide a rebate by weight metal recycling service. Single use plastics recycling The provider will need to demonstrate how they intend to collect the material and where the material is recycled and the uses that the material is put to after collection. Timber (Inc. pallets) The service provider should consider an enclosed skip for wood and pallets or if alternatives are available provide suitable alternative solutions to this stream Battery recycling — excludes hazardous batteries Tenderers wishing to provide a similar service which offers the University a rebate or free of charge clearance are welcome to submit a proposal
