The advocacy element of the service provides independent professional advocacy support to individual CYP who meet the eligibility criteria for the Service to ensure that their views and wishes are heard. The independent visitor element provides volunteers, independent of the Local Authority, who can befriend and assist a CYP who is looked after (CLA). Local authorities have a duty to appoint a person to be an independent visitor for a child or young person looked after where it appears to them to be in the CYP’s interest to do so. The purpose of this element of the Service is to manage the recruitment, training and matching of volunteer independent visitors who can befriend and assist CYP who are looked after (CLA).
