The Hywel Dda University Health Board (HDUHB) provides a full range of primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services across the three counties of Hywel Dda (Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire). There are four general hospitals within HDUHB based at: • Prince Phillip Hospital (PPH), Bryngwyn Mawr, Dafen, Llanelli, SA14 8QF, • Glangwili General Hospital (GGH), Dolgwili Road, Carmarthen, SA31 2AF, • Bronglais General Hospital (BGH), Caradoc Road, Aberystwyth, SY23 1R, • Withybush General Hospital (WGH), Fishguard Road, Haverfordwest, SA61 2PZ. Supporting the HDUHB at each hospital site is the Pathology service, which comprise the disciplines of Blood Sciences (Biochemistry and Haematology including Blood Transfusion), Immunology, Microbiology, Phlebotomy services, and Cellular Pathology and Mortuary services. Each of these hospitals has a Blood Transfusion Department, which are able to provide blood and blood components to meet the requirements of the patients under the care of clinicians in the HDUHB. The supply and provision of Blood and Blood Products for all Blood Transfusion Departments is provided by the Welsh Blood Service (WBS), Ely Valley Road, Talbot Green Pontyclun, CF72 9WB. Although there is a routine delivery service provided by the WBS due to the nature of the service provided by the Transfusion Department additional ad hoc deliveries are also required on occasion from WBS to the hospitals within the HDUHB.
