Tender description

The National Gallery will be seeking to procure a computed X-radiography system for transmission X-radiography of old master paintings, to advance their interdisciplinary scientific and art historical research. An adaptable system is required to work with paintings of a variety of sizes with dimensions ranging from a few tens of centimetres to several metres and weighing up to 300 kg. The new computed X-radiography system will replace the existing film-based X-ray ‘Art table’ system currently used for X-raying painting at the Gallery and will be housed in the existing studio area. X-ray system to include: (i) a computed radiography system; (ii) X-ray set consisting of a portable X-tube, generator, controller and all cabling; (iii) a new mobile X-ray ‘Art table’ under which the X-ray tube can be mounted below a shielded collimator to allow exposures of paintings lying horizontally on the table. It must be possible to remove the X-ray tube for use with the micro-positioning easel; (iv) a mounting system for the X-ray tube and imaging plates; (v) a complete new safety circuit compliant with UK statutory regulations for X-ray equipment and capable of being operated in accordance with the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17); (vi) a 15D Duplex wire IQI and 16-step aluminium step wedge IQI for reference and standardisation of capture; (vii) a preventative maintenance service contract; (viii) delivery, installation, commissioning and training; (ix) decommissioning of existing X-ray equipment (the Gallery to arrange disposal).
