Tender description

The University of the West of England is planning to build an initial further 900 student accommodation bed spaces at its Frenchay Campus. This will initially involve demolishing its existing Carroll Court buildings and constructing the 900 bed spaces across 3 six-storey buildings. Site enabling works are expected to start in June 2021 and the main works in October 2021 (subject to the extent of the enabling works), This will include a café, shared lounges and communal dining spaces. The university is issuing this PIN to invite interested parties (potential contractors and sub-contractors) to participate in pre-tender discussions (towards the end of November 2020). This will be brief potential suppliers on the requirements and approach particularly with reference to our Passivhaus intentions. The vision is that the campus is transformed into a world -leading University enterprise campus supporting innovation and creativity, focusing on developing a healthy, safe, sustainable and inclusive campus and space. The University recognises the climate change emergency and has developed its' 2030 strategy to become carbon neutral by 2030, to reduce water and energy use, cut waste and support biodiversity. It wishes to establish all campuses as clean air and smoke free zones. As a direct result of this, the student accommodation project is intended to be a Passivhaus development. This PIN is to invite contractors and sub-contractors to engage in pretender discussions to advise the outline requirements, brief the suppliers on our Passivhaus approach and to determine the most appropriate contracting route.
