The LCSUT design measures approximately 1.67x0.46x0.8m, and sees a modular construction as follows. First, the front section is made up of an array of OFHC copper heat sink blocks, each cooled with a steel cooling pipe. A middle steel section contains cartridge heaters suitable for up to 100 kW internal heating and features integral cooling channels. Finally, a massive ‘rear’ section of the LCSUT is uncooled and is constructed of ferromagnetic steel. The foreseen manufacturing processes are CNC machining, deep-drilling, vacuum brazing, welding, and forming/pressing. Scope to include detailed design for manufacture (production of build-to-print drawings), manufacturing, acceptance testing, and delivery to the UKAEA site in Yorkshire, UK.
