Tender description
LIT0660 Requirement for PCS The University of Edinburgh Data Lab Innovation Centre enables Industry, the public sector and world-class academics to innovate and develop new data science capabilities in a collaborative environment. Our core mission is to generate significant economic, social and scientific value from data for Scotland. With hubs in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness, The Data Lab is focused on building relationships locally and delivering a range of activities that span three key areas: Community Building: We connect world-leading researchers and data scientists with Industry and public sector organisations, giving them access to experts through sandpit and workshop events, data science conferences and guest lectures. The Data Lab’s mission is to help Scotland maximise value from data and lead the world to a data powered future. We believe that how we do this is equally as important as the mission itself and this is why our culture and values are the heart of everything we do and we ask collaborators to follow these too. TORCH aims to enable businesses to successfully take the next steps on their data transformation by translating strategy into practical actions using the methods and technologies most suited to their needs. TORCH will work with data specialist suppliers to support businesses from all sectors to overcome the challenges faced when embarking upon new data projects, including lack of in-house skills and knowledge, navigating the complex data technology and services marketplace, and being unable to find the right resources, tools and components. TORCH projects seek to establish solid foundations for future data driven success for the organisations involved. The team assist organisations to shape the projects they want / need to undertake; can support piloting solution options; and act as a critical friend through to completion. By investing effort in the early stages of data projects, the quality of outcomes is improved and the risk of costly errors in the later (more expensive) project phases are reduced. Further information is available here - https://www.thedatalab.com/support-to-innovate/torch/ 2.3 TORCH Detail TORCH will work with private sector organisations of all sizes across all sectors but is aimed more at SME’s and start-ups who typically do not have the in-house expertise to successfully maximise their use of data. TORCH engagements are a targeted, time-limited (up to 30 days) intervention at the earliest stages of a project development. Engagements are costed on a day-rate basis with discounts offered based upon the size and age of the client organisations. As demand increases, we are looking for 2/3 experienced consultants with expertise in data and (cloud) platform Solutions/Project Architecture and business consultancy to join our team on an on-demand basis to execute the TORCH engagements. The consultant engaged will be required to provide professional expertise and guidance to clients; to understand and prioritise client goals and requirements; and to lead and facilitate complex engagements between clients and external partners/suppliers. Understanding of the business environment within Scotland, particularly for SME organisations, will be advantageous. Typical activities will include being responsible for validating requirements; identifying and piloting potential solutions; defining solution architectures; identifying appropriate implementation approaches and supplier partners for client projects; assembling inputs needed for client case studies.
