Delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum forms a major part of the new Ofsted framework. Attain schools need to be able to meet these expectations in all areas, including primary foundation subjects, in preparation for the ‘deep dives’ of an inspection. Following a meeting of the Attain sub-group for Coordinated CPD, the Merton Special Teaching Alliance and the Merton School Improvement primary team have been consulted about the potential for a cross-phase collaborative project to support the development of the primary curriculum. Primary headteachers have shown support for developing curriculum leadership in foundation subjects such as history, geography, art and information technology (IT) would strengthen broad curriculum delivery. This project aims to equip all primary curriculum leaders of history, geography, art and IT in three areas: • Subject knowledge • Curriculum progression • Pedagogical practice Subject leaders will attend a series of three half-day sessions relating to their subject specialism, led by an expert facilitator. These sessions will allow subject leaders to work cross-phase to explore the curriculum delivery in their subject. It is recommended that every session is attended by a secondary teacher along with a special school teacher.
