The Centre for Research in Engineering Surface Technology (CREST) in Technological University Dublin is the only dedicated surface coatings laboratory in Ireland. It exists to serve the SMART economy by means of translating in-house fundamental knowledge from the bench-top to the market. The Centre has over sixty years of commercial surface coating experience, to provide this level of service. CREST is operating within an ISO 9001 Quality Management System to guarantee consistent and reliable project delivery. CREST is one of 15 centres in Ireland that form the Enterprise Ireland funded Technology Gateway Network (http://www.technologygateway.ie). CREST is seeking to purchase an SO2 chamber, with an automatic dosing system, to perform SO2 gas/temperature/humidity cycles testing, and cyclic corrosion cycles. The instrument is sought to replace the current Kesternisch unit currently at CREST. This equipment will test materials and coatings, in a corrosive environment. The equipment sought, will allow the simulation of different environments such as pollution (acid rain), industrial environments, as well as oil, and gas environments. In addition, the equipment sought would allow for cycles of accelerated corrosion tests, involving salt spray.
