Tender description
ONS is looking to identify and engage with industry partners to help bring third party data and/or expertise to access better and more relevant data sources. This will help improve the quality and usefulness of official statistics about our population, society and economy that decision makers, businesses and citizens so urgently need. ONS is seeking to develop partnerships with organisations that hold information about used car sales in the UK. We are looking into alternative methods for constructing price indices for used cars, which is a highly weighted component of our headline inflation measure. This will require a comprehensive dataset of used car prices and vehicle specifications; variables we require are: o Price o Manufacturer o Model o Age o Mileage o Engine size o Chassis type (eg. hatchback, saloon, estate, etc.) o No. of doors o CO2 emissions o Transmission type o Fuel type (e.g. diesel, petrol, battery electric vehicle, plug-in- hybrid electric vehicle, hybrid electric vehicles, etc.) o Insurance group Any additional variables relating to car specification or optional extras would also be useful, for example: o Trim level o Alloy wheels o Sat nav o Metallic paint (a costed option) o Sunroof/panoramic roof o Climate control We would also like organisations able to supply sales volume; average prices or expenditure data on used cars to express an interest. The types of organisations that should consider contacting us include: o Providers offering substantial coverage of the whole UK used car market. Types of support could include: o Supply of bulk data extracts o Supply of relevant metadata and/or documentation on how data enters the system and how it is processed o Provision of aggregated data as defined by ONS What can a partnership with ONS offer? An opportunity to work with a world class statistics organisation, to create better and more timely statistics to be used by all for the benefit of the public good. Please note that at this stage ONS is seeking data free of charge. How to register When you have expressed an interest, please submit a return with the following information to allow ONS to have an understanding of what your company can offer. Please include as a minimum: o Organisation Name o Contact details o Brief description of primary activity of organisation o Type of data you can provide and support available
