Tender description

Cambridgeshire County Council currently has a block contract for 20 cars to deliver 1 771 hours of care provision per week across the county due to expire on the 26 November 2020. This will be extended for 12 months. The extension is needed to maintain provision whilst a transformed care pathway is commissioned to support hospital discharge. The new care pathway will support an increased number of older people to return home after hospital discharge, reducing demand for long term bed-based care. It is anticipated the new care pathway will comprise of a range of short stay beds for step up and step down purposes, along with respite and reablement interventions and in-reach domiciliary care. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic there have been exceptional circumstances in managing the ongoing demand pressure and resource allocation which is the main reason to retain the capacity as an extension of this contract for a period of 12 months. This is also leading to a period where we will face winter pressures, potential for further spike in Covid, timescales to go out to market and complexity, risk of increased cost, etc. The extension of this contract will be used to develop an up to date needs and evidence-based specification as well as work to ensure that this exercise is completed jointly with the review of interim and respite beds.
