Tender description
The configuration and co-ordination of cancer services is led by the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP). The focus for the NCCP in 2021 is continued implementation of the priorities of the National Cancer Strategy 2017-2026: 1) reduce the cancer burden; 2) provide optimal care; 3) maximise patient involvement and quality of life and 4) enable and assure change. The provision of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) to cancer patients lies within Theme 2 - Provision of Optimal Care of the National Cancer Strategy 2017-2026. It is a key programme of the sub-theme Getting the Treatment Right. The SACT programme of the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) is delivered through the 8 designated cancer centres and 17 additional hospital sites, organised in 10 Systemic Therapy Networks, and the cancer centre for children at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) - Crumlin. A hub-and-spoke model is employed. The aim of the project is to provide a documented basis, through the establishment of a rationale, evidence, research and evaluation outcomes, relevant models and recommendations, to enable determination and agreement of the appropriate numbers and skills mix of nursing teams for SACT day ward settings. The outcomes will be utilised to support service planning for the nursing configuration and skill mix required to meet the care needs of SACT patients appropriate to their level of complexity and in the care settings. Objectives: 1. To make recommendations for the basis and approach to developing capacity and capability for SACT nursing to meet the needs of patients and families now and into the future. 2. To inform and provide guidance on the future strategy for training, development and talent management that aligns with the SACT model of care and maximizes nursing leadership and input for integrated, person-centered care of patients and their families.
