IDA Carrigtohill Business & Technology Park, Cork, Road Upgrade Works

Tender description

The road upgrade works comprise the construction of a new 3.0m wide outbound bus lane (560m long), bus stops and a new 2km long shared use cycleway/footway within the Park. The outbound bus lane is to provide bus priority measures to allow a bus route to go into the Park, which will reduce walking time for employees between the office and bus stops. To facilitate the construction of the bus lane the existing kerb line on the eastern side of the north-south internal road will be moved by 1.8m which will result in a road width of 9.0m. It will be necessary to remove a limited number of existing trees and shrubbery to accommodate the realignment of the kerb, but it is proposed to replace the displaced trees at alternative locations in the Park. New surface water gullies and connections will be required to accommodate the additional road width and there will be limited earthworks required as part of reprofiling the embankments. Any existing utility service chambers/ducting that are impacted by the works will be lowered, raised, relocated as necessary. The existing public lighting will be upgraded. The shared use cycleway/footway will be a 3m wide paved surface and it will have bicycle/walking symbols and appropriate signage. Tactile paving will be provided at appropriate locations to assist the visually impaired. Crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists will be provided at the internal roundabout junction and at accesses to each of the businesses. Approximately 1.3km of an existing 2.0m wide footpath with be widening and resurfacing to provide the 3.0m wide shared use cycleway/footway. The additional 700m will be a new 3.0m wide shared use cycleway/footway that will follow the southern and eastern boundaries of the Stryker Anngrove site. A detailed landscape plan has been developed to show the compensatory planting that will be undertaken.
