Tender description

Nottinghamshire County Council is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced organisation to deliver Funeral Services across Nottinghamshire (excluding Nottingham City). The Council has a statutory duty under Section 46 of the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984 to undertake the cremation or burial of people who die whilst living in residential and nursing care accommodation and who have no-one willing or able to make funeral arrangements for them. It is estimated that the contract will involve the provision of approximately thirty funerals per year. The contract will be awarded for an initial period of 3 years. There is an option to extend for up to a further 2 years in twelve month increments. A private funeral will be arranged in accordance with the deceased person’s wishes if the person has provided written instructions and there are sufficient funds in the person’s estate to pay for the specified arrangements. In all other situations the appointed funeral director will provide a dignified contract funeral regardless of there being any estate left by the deceased person.
