Tender description

The Home Office acting through Border Force is seeking expressions of interest for a potential future requirement for the supply of fixed and/or mobile/portable Specimen Isolation Units (SIU's) (Drugs Toilets) for use in border control operations in the UK and internationally. A key part of Border Force activity is to prevent the smuggling of prohibited items, such as controlled drugs into the United Kingdom. Within the scope of its wider customs duties, Border Force Officers frequently encounter members of the travelling public that have ingested commercial quantities of controlled drugs, or, have concealed them within body cavities in order to evade the border controls and smuggle the drugs into the UK. If identified, the Suspected Internal Drug Traffickers (SIDTs) will be detained by Border Force until such time that the SIDT can produce the drugs through the use of a Specimen Isolation Unit (SIU). The requirement may also include the supply of SIU’s to border control partners located around the world.
