London Underground (LU) is developing a strategic plan for its haulage capability. This includes its battery locomotive fleet. This market engagement document is intended to describe the existing fleet, LU’s needs for a possible replacement fleet together with a questionnaire. We invite potential suppliers to participate in this exercise. The objectives of this market engagement exercise are: • to assist LU in determining the best ‘route to market’ for the procurement of approximately 35 new battery locomotives to replace the existing fleet; • to understand and explore the capabilities of the new locomotive supply market; • to gain market feedback on our core and optional technical requirements that any new locomotives would need to meet in order to deliver the technical performance parameters set out in section 2.1 of Appendix 2 of the market engagement document.
