Traffic Officer Personal Lighting Trial

Highways England are seeking to equip every Traffic Officer with self-contained hands free personal lighting with directable lighting source which will allow Traffic Officers to access dark parts of the network and support them in carrying out activities such as the deployment of emergency traffic management (ETM). Tasks the personal light will support include: • Incident management of small scenes • Identification and collection of debris on unlit sections of the motorway network • Working on the verge removing debris or vehicles from the carriageway • Activities such as attachment of tow straps, deployment of ETM, completion of paperwork • Identification of infrastructure damage following minor incidents or gaps in boundary fencing The benefits of equipping every Traffic Officer with personal lighting is to enable them to undertake the above tasks safely and reduce the frequency of slip, trips and falls.
