TD1624 - Opportunity Area KS4 English & Maths Programme

Tender description

Under Priority 2 of the Derby Opportunity Area Delivery Plan, our aim is to raise attainment in our primary and secondary schools. This includes a target to “significantly close the gap in English and maths progress and attainment at KS2 and KS4” by 2021 and an ambition that “the city will be on track to surpass national averages within five years.” We require support for secondary and FE college mathematics teachers and leaders that will improve KS4 results in English and maths in Derby. This will particularly support disadvantaged students, raise rates of progress of achievement of high and low prior attainment pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in the 2020/21 Academic Year. Year 4 activity will focus on peer review in all secondary schools and Post 16 settings, alongside targeted support for Year 11 students (the current Year 10) and Post 16 resits, supporting catch-up for those who need it most to ensure that these cohorts are not disadvantaged as a result of missing school due to COVID-19. The programme will include direct support and resources to facilitate catch-up for those in greatest need to remove barriers to learning/facilitate re-engagement and create the conditions for learning and transition support for those moving to Post 16 without English and maths GCSEs. This will include a city-wide approach, which builds on the Boundary Leapers model in order to provide catch-up support for those that need it rather than a focus on grade boundaries – bringing subject specialists together to provide additional support for those in greatest need.
