Tender description

University of Northampton was seeking a high quality waste management and recycling service, conducted in a sustainable manner with a 80 % recycling and reuse target. The University currently sends no waste to landfill and recycles 66 %. Its goal is to continue sending no waste directly to landfill. Where environmentally and economically practicable, waste should be segregated, consolidated, weighed and utilised as a resource. Waste data on diversion from landfill rates achieved are an important factor in the tender, balanced with the cost. The contract is for the provision of a comprehensive management service, including the collection, removal/recycling/re-use/disposal of waste (as detailed in the tender documents) from the UoN main Waterside Campus and six other sites referred to in the Invitation to Tender (‘ITT’). It is anticipated that the Contract will will run for 3 years with an option to extend for a further period or periods of up to 1 year in aggregate. The University of Northampton was seeking an efficient, innovative, high quality waste management and recycling collection service, conducted in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner. It should be noted that one of the main aims of this contract is to help implement the University’s sustainable waste and resource management strategy and an overall target of 80 % recycling and reuse. As such, the Waste Hierarchy should be applied and tenderers should show how their proposals would put the strategy into practice as part of this contract. The University currently sends no waste directly to landfill and has an estimated recycling rate of 66 % (2017/18, by weight, via on-site segregation and off-site treatment, including food waste disposal). Its goal is to continue treating all waste, so that none is sent directly to landfill. It aims to not to send any useable furniture for disposal or recycling. Where technically, environmentally and economically practicable, waste should be segregated, consolidated, weighed and utilised as a resource. Data on the rates and types of diversion from landfill achieved are an important factor in the tender, balanced with the costs of collecting such data. The contractor shall be responsible for the management of the services as defined herein. The contract is for the provision of a comprehensive management service, including the collection, removal and recycling/re-use/disposal of wastes listed in the tender documents from the University of Northampton’s main Waterside Campus (NN1 5PH) as well as from other University owned site: Park Student Village (NN2 7AL), St George’s Avenue (NN2 6JD), Podiatry Clinic, St. John’s Hall of Residence, University of Northampton Innovation Centre and iCon Environmental Innovation Centre (Daventry). It is anticipated that the Contract will run for 3 years with an option to extend entirely at the University’s discretion for a further 1 year.
