Calderdale CCG: Covid 19 Additional Beds

Tender description

In March 2020 the government issued guidance on rapid discharge requirements from acute hospitals. This requirement states that “unless required to be in hospital, patients must not remain in a NHS bed” and that when it is clinically safe to do so, discharge all patients and transfer from the ward into a discharge lounge within one hour of a decision being made and within two hours discharge from the hospital. The service will provide additional transitional bed capacity for patients stepping down from hospital who are medically stable but require a further period of rehabilitation and support and are Covid positive. A review of the profile of the patients requiring this service has resulted in enhanced residential care model. The provision will comprise 8 beds with an ability to increase those beds to 12 if, and when, demand increases. The provision will work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of patients being discharged from hospital. The service will be provided by care home staff and supported by in reach from community nursing, therapies and a dedicated GP service. This process will qualify providers to deliver services to the eligible population of Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Groups (the commissioner). This service is to be delivered under a NHS Standard Contract, which will have a term of 6 Months; 1 October 2020 – 31 March 2021.
