RFI - Material Recycling Facility options

Tender description

The City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (The Council) is currently considering options for a long term solution for the sorting and placement to merchants of its kerbside collected Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR). It is envisaged a solution will need to be implemented on or soon after 1st April 2021. Currently, the Council collects around 36,000 tonnes of co-mingled DMR at kerbside each year which is then processed at the Council’s Material Recycling facility (MRF) to reduce contamination prior to the resulting product being delivered to a Contractor for further processing and subsequent sale on behalf of the Council. The collected DMR consists of a high level of contamination which we are constantly working internally and with residents to reduce. This, along with internal and external processing, comes at an extremely large cost to the Council. In particular, the collected glass is highly contaminated with organics, moisture and fines which we are unable to clean to a high quality. Given this context, it has been deemed necessary and appropriate that some exploratory work to identify options is undertaken. Keywords: recycling, waste, MRF
