The School of Engineering at UL offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a range of engineering disciplines including Aeronautical, Biomedical, Civil, Design and Manufacture and Mechanical in addition to programmes in Construction Management and Engineering, and Technology Management. The hydrology and rainfall equipment described in this tender is required for the civil engineering programme (civil@ul), which uses a learning-by-doing approach to prepare the next generation of engineers to design and implement sustainable solutions to the many pressing problems facing society. In addition, environmental and geotechnical research are key components of the civil engineering programme, which continues to expand its post graduate and research capacity. The hydrology and rainfall apparatus will be used primarily as a teaching aid for catchment hydrology and subsurface hydrogeology in a laboratory setting for undergraduate as well as postgraduate students. It will also be used as a research aid for the purposes of generating data for modelling purposes and/or to validate modelled data for simulated rainfall events, sediment transport and deposition, and scour erosion. The apparatus, which will be housed in an indoor laboratory.
